The romper has been making its place in fashion known, but with new denim and floral options the romper has been newly refreshed. Dress it down during the day with a pair of flats, or gladiator sandals, or turn it out in the evening with some peep-toe heels. Grab one for yourself, and let the ROMP begin!
NeW YORK FASHION WEEK
February 25, 2010
Most of you may have tuned in to NYC fashion week to check out the latest collections. The designers lit the stage with theatrical props to decorate and Marc Jacobs had his models come out of a corrugated box while Marios Schwab of Halston staged mirrors peaked in shapes of pyramids and dunes, it was amazing. But who came to see the stage design? The reason for gathering all fashionistas in one builiding is to see the clothing. The designers sparked our fascination with asymmetrical shoulders sequins fur and colorblock. Upon viewing all the collections I discovered a lot of neutral color and I created a visual to highlight my favs! Check it out.

A-A-Adorable. Our inner-child is screaming LOVE for the French indie/pop sensation Sliimy. His sweet version of dancehall electro beats and teeny bopper lyrics won our heart. In case you missed the VMA's, OMGaGa!
September 21, 2009
Finally there is an artist that hasn't been contrived by some pop star making machine. Lady GaGa clearly has her own style and is having so much fun with it. She looked incredible at the VMA's, she is art and pop and there definitely hasn't been anyone this fresh since Gwen Stefani came onto the scene with her own unique style in the 90's. Thank you! We were getting so bored.

Age: 20
Hometown: Brooklyn, NY
We Love: "Take Me", "Don't Wanna Go", "If I Was Your Girlfriend"
This 20-year old Brooklyn native is bringing a brand new flavor to the music world. We like to call her style a fierce fusion because it's a mixture of Pop, R&B, Hip-Hop and Reggaeton. Cynthia Lissette is well on her way to becoming a major force on the music scene. She's been earning her musical stripes while working with major stars like Jay-Z, Jennifer Lopez, Amerie, T.I., Ludacris, Ray J & D-Block. Her music has already hit the East Coast airwaves and we can't wait for the West Coast to get familiar! We were stoked to have a conversation with Cynthia where she broke it down about how she got where she is, artists she's worked with and her personal fashion style.
We love the mixture of musical elements that describe your sound - how would you describe your music?
I would describe my music as an eclectic collage of some of my favorite artists and song styles that have inspired me. I am open-minded to all kinds of music and love the challenge of adding my own ideas and flavor into the mix.
What experiences in your life encouraged you to make music that appeals to young women?
Every woman builds upon their personal experiences and it usually involves the changes we endure in relationships, growing as individuals, and becoming stronger and comfortable in our skin as women. I love to make music that appeals to young women so that they can relate to each other, and understand that they are not alone with what they are going through.
What icons inspired you to pursue a career in the entertainment industry?
There are so many but I have been inspired by - the vocals of such artists as SWV and Mariah Carey, the unique sounds of Brandy and of course the talent and stage presence of Michael Jackson.
You were given the amazing opportunity to sing backup for Jay-Z's "American Gangster Tour" - how was that experience?
It was one of the most amazing and personally influential opportunities of my life! It prepared me for what happens on a tour deaing with not enough sleep, running to rehearsals/soundcheck, off to the hotel to change, then back again to get ready for the performance. But it was all so much fun and such a learning experience.
What did it feel like hearing Jennifer Lopez singing "Hold It Don't Drop It", a song you co-wrote and sung background vocals on?
It was an exciting and very gratifying moment when I heard it for the first time. I felt honored to contribute to a song that a talented artist such as Jennifer Lopez chose to include in her album. And I hope to continue writing and doing more work for other artists as well.
Although they are both very different songs, "Take Me" and "If I Was Your Girlfriend" are our personal favorites. What relationship advice do you have for young women?
Wow, how much time do you have?! First and foremost, I would say to always love and respect yourself first. Realize that no one is perfect and that relationships are experiences to help you grow as a woman, and not a determining factor in who you are. Trust God with everything that happens and understand that it does all happen for a reason.
How would you describe your fashion style?
I would say ever-changing, modern, and in accordance with my mood. Sometimes I feel like making a statement and may mix things up. Other times I feel content with throwing on a t-shirt and jeans. It's so much fun being a girl because you can wear so many things like dresses, skirts, jeans or leggings. We have so many options to make our own style with. And I would love to share my style to the world and hope to start a new trend!
What do you like wearing when you're at the studio recording?
I love to be comfortable and just throw on some sweats and a tank top, but sometimes my schedule does not allow me to change so I just go in with whatever I have on at the moment! I love to sing, and that is all that matters to me.
You must love when you finally have a break! When you have a day off what's your favorite way to spend your time?
Oh man, I love calling the girls up and heading to the movies to catch up on every movie I missed. Sometimes everyone just comes over with a movie and popcorn, grabs blankets and enjoys a calm evening.

KATIE KERKHOVER: At only 23 years old, Katie Kerkhover already has interest from multiple major labels, a debut album, over 100,000 plays on MySpace, and has earned the title of Best Female Vocalist of the Year, thanks to the 2009 Buzz Awards. Read More »
Age: 23
Hometown: Rockwood, Illinois
Virtual Album: "Blister"
We Love: "Can't Handle Me", "Gone Again", and "Down to This"
Katie's the new face in the world of rock and roll, with dynamic vocals that totally set her apart. And did we mention she kills on the guitar? Not only will Katie's girl power anthems leave you super-charged, but she has a band that will have you head banging and fist pumping all night! Whether you want to jam out while you clean your room or get over that loser ex-boyfriend of yours, Katie's debut virtual album "Blister" is just the ticket! We were lucky enough to get to know Katie a little better, here's what we found out!
Katie you're so talented and seem like such a natural! How long have you been playing the guitar?
Katie: I've been playing the guitar for about 14 years.
How did you get your "start"?
Katie: I started playing the violin at age 4 and then one year I got a guitar for Christmas and it just took off. I started writing songs and it eventually developed into the music you hear now.
Are there any artists you're dying to perform with?
Katie: I love Nickleback and Green Day. I would love to open for both of them!
I can't imagine performing in front of such a huge crowd! Do you have any pre-show rituals or superstitions?
Katie: No superstitions. As far as pre-show rituals, I like to take a few minutes to myself to clear my head and get psyched for the show and then get the band pumped.
How did you come up with the album title, "Blister"?
Katie: It was actually my band mate Tim that came up with the title. We were throwing around phrases from our songs and song titles then he said, how about Blister? I thought, yeah, that's great. I felt that the title represented not only the hard work that went into making the record but also the tempo and attitude of the songs. I hope that the record will leave a "mark" on the listener.
We've always been so jealous that rock and roll artists are lucky enough to have a band with them at all times, are you pretty close with the other band members?
Katie: Yes! We hang out and have a good time together regardless of if we are on stage or not. They are all great people and I enjoy spending time with them.
Congratulations on winning the Female Vocalist of the Year Buzz Award! How did you feel when you heard your name called?
Katie: To be honest, I didn't hear it the first time they called my name and the second time they said it I looked at a friend of mine and said... "Why are they saying my name?" She said "you won!! You won Best Female Rock Vocalist!" I almost passed out. I was not expecting to win at all! I was really there to support everyone else. Then I thought, oh god, they want me to give a speech...What am I going to say...I accepted the award and said a very grateful and shocked thank you to everyone and the radio station for their support. It was an exhilarating feeling!
What's the easiest way for you to maintain your punk rock style on the go?
Katie: I try to get items that mix and match easily and I make them feel a little different with accessories, hair and makeup.
What piece of advice would you give to girls who want to add a piece of edge to their wardrobe but don't know where to start?
Katie: I would say the easiest way to start is with accessories. Necklaces, bracelets and nail polish. Oh and something leather. Also, don't be afraid to be different. Looking different is what makes you stand out and gives you more of an "edge."
You must love when you finally have a break! When you have a day off what's your favorite way to spend your time?
Katie: I enjoy shopping and dining out. I like to turn my brain off and drift through stores. On the other hand, I also enjoy curling up on the couch watching movies.

From: Victorville, CA
Interning at: Maxrave Marketing
Sign: Aquarius
College: California State University, San Bernardino
Major: Double major in Business and Sports & Entertainment Marketing
What do you like most about the West Coast?
I love the chill, laid back vibe, which is definitely my personality. One of the best things about being from the west coast is our weather and being able to wear sandals with every outfit no matter what time of year it is.
How did you get the internship?
This whole entire experience has been spur of the moment for me. I've never been afraid to ask someone what profession they are in, and when I did just that an opportunity arose for me that I couldn't pass up. When I found out about this internship position, I sent in an updated resume ASAP, and within 2 weeks I had the ideal internship and a new apartment with complete strangers (a true Real World experience)!
What are you doing as a Maxrave intern?
I have been completely exposed to so many aspects of retail marketing and I am gaining so many skills from several hands-on projects. I am assisting the team with the launch of the Fall 2009 campaign by tiling banners for in-store presentations, trend-spotting and developing media kit materials which will go to fashion editors. I am also creating signage for in-store racktop displays and updating the Maxrave website and Eblasts (sign-up for great deals!)
What projects are you working on?
Our Fall 2009 campaign is a major project right now. I am developing different Back-to-School themes using our top ten Fall items and writing copy for the Maxrave blog. I am really excited about interviewing artists from our Virtual CD and creating Maxrave's first Myspage page!
What has been the most valuable experience you've learned while interning?
The most valuable experience I've learned while interning is how hands-on marketing in the fashion industry is in relating the art of fashion with clothing and lifestyle. I also learned the importance of working in teams and feeding off of one another's ideas in order to complete projects and reach deadlines. I admire the team of people I work with - they're so skilled in their roles and I truly appreciate being asked my ideas and opinions. It's so surreal to see projects I've worked on come to life and placed in stores.
Students who want to pursue an internship should...
Learn how to network - the more people you meet, the better possibility you have of obtaining amazing opportunities. And, do your research on the field that interests you so that when you do receive a great opportunity, you can be prepared and impress people with your knowledge of the field. Prepare yourself by always updating and sharpening your resume - you never know when the right people are going to call!!!
Where do you plan to visit before you leave LA?
As many flea markets as possible! In fact, there's a vintage flea market that I can't wait to visit this month. I also want to explore all of Downtown LA because there are a lot of different cultural elements to see. And last but not least, Venice Beach. All the FREE live entertainment that takes place there never ceases to amaze me.
Items you can't leave home without?
My Blackberry - I never understood what all the hype was about until I bought one. My camera because I never want to miss an unforgettable moment (especially at Venice Beach). And liquid eyeliner, which tops off any look.
What field of the fashion industry could you see yourself working in?
Definitely the Marketing and Visual Merchandising fields because I love all the elements that come about in relating and reaching out to the public and targeting consumers through creative and appealing projects.

College: University of Iowa
Major: Double major in Communication Studies and Health Sciences with a focus on Entrepreneurial Studies
What do you like most about the West coast? What do you miss about the Midwest?
The influence from so many different people, places, and cultures. There are no two places in this city that are exactly alike - it's incredible! I definitely miss the Midwest though... especially boating and barbequing in the summer.
How did you get the internship?
I asked the right people the right questions. I had numerous conversations with multiple people before I even applied, and even after that it was a process. My passion and persistence must have been apparent because I'm still around...I only hope everyone enjoys having me as much as I love being here!
What are you doing as a Maxrave intern?
Get everyone coffee! Just kidding!
Learning so much about how Retail Marketing works! I've put together sign kits, press materials, sorted through samples, and helped tile banners. I've worked on blogs, social networking, Eblasts (sign up if you haven't already!) and been responsible for updating the Maxrave website. I'm only here for the summer so I want to make sure I experience as much as possible.
What projects are you working on?
Right now my main focus has been coming up with ideas/writing for the Maxrave Blog (tell your friends to check it out!!!). I'm getting ready to interview two musicians, who will be featured on our upcoming Virtual CD. I've also been helping the company prepare to move forward with social networking (I'm in charge of Twitter which is awesome).
What has been the most valuable experience you've learned while interning?
Everything! Everyday presents new information and challenges. Learning hands-on offers so many more opportunities! I couldn't have asked for a better team of people to be working with; not only does everyone here have awesome personalities, but they are so willing to help make sure I am getting the most out of my internship.
What info would you give to students who want to pursue an internship?
1.Go for it! Don't be shy about talking to people about your goals; you might be surprised how excited and willing others are to offer advice or a helping hand.
2.Live by the golden-rule. (Treat others the way you want to be treated)
Since you're in LA for the summer, what places are you planning to visit before you leave?
I want to see as much of California as I can since I'm only here for the summer! I'm going to San Diego this weekend, which I'm so excited for! Then next on my list is Santa Barbara and San Francisco.
While you've been in LA, have you seen any celebrities?
Yes! Ryan Seacrest before a Lakers game, and they were actually filming 24 in/right outside our office...both very cool!
